The residents of our City have often reminded the Council that we do not want Southend to be expanded to swallow up Great Wakering and beyond. We are already living in a congested area and our services are struggling to cope with our current resident's needs.
Great Wakering also does not want to be merged with Southend.
The Councils aren't listening.
In 2018 an expression of interest was made to build on the Land North of Bournes Green Chase. It seems that no Councillors were informed at the time.
In December 2024 a PROPOSAL was made to the New Towns Taskforce to build a New Town on this land. There has been no papers or discussion by Councillors.
The Taskforce will report to Government Ministers on the preferred proposals in July 2025.
We need to make our voices heard.
For many years I have campaigned against all hints, ideas, options or proposals to build on the Green Belt, North of Bournes Green Chase.
I am astounded that Southend's Labour Administration, along with Rochford's Lib Dem led Council sent a proposal to the New Towns Taskforce offering to build 10,000 homes on this green belt land. The disruption and long-term consequences of having at least 30,000 extra people and up to 20,000 cars would be catastrophic for our residents.
New towns are a good idea, but not in a locked in corner of Essex which is already congested and struggles to cope with the current population.

We have sent a requisition to the Mayor asking him to call an Extraordinary Council to discuss the motion that I have attached to this email.
We have also asked for a full investigation as to why this decision was made behind closed doors.
